Work by Melanie Breiterman, one of our students in Session 4.
In March, I had the amazing opportunity to be a work study student at Penland School of Craft in North Carolina, in David Eichelberger’s Form Focus hand building class. These works were created using bisque molds and pinching. The pieces are finished with terra sigilata.
I was interested in extracting characteristics in existing objects, so that they resembled the original, but were not exact replicas. I still am interested in creating more permanant versions of disposable items, as well as exploring object attachment regarding banal, ephemeral possessions.
My search for ubiquitous objects continues.
Our search does too, ericawine. Thank you for sharing these.

Enjoying this portrait of Daniel Michalik with our morning coffee. He’ll be at Penland teaching a workshop in experimental design using cork, July 20-August 5, and there’s one space left. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to nab it.
Ruganzu Bruno designed and enlisted lots of help in creating the new Penland Luna moth sailing above the stage at Ridgeway. The Luna moth wings are filled with recycled plastic bottles and coffee cans.
The last demo of the @penlandschool #slipcast / mold making workshop. I learned so much from teacher Heather Mae Erickson @hmaemaeceramics . I am so excited to take all of my new knowledge back to my studio and start to transform the @vitrifiedstudio line. Thanks Heather! I highly recommend her classes and workshops!
